Before you hire a GEO agency Jakarta firms can trust in 2026, ask it to show you, in writing, how it will measure your AI visibility: which questions it tests in English and Bahasa Indonesia, what it reads in Search Console, and which crawler and referral records it checks. The GEO label and an llms.txt file no longer set anyone apart.
Updated 13 September 2026.
You're not the only buyer who's wary of the label. A practitioner on Reddit's r/SEO asked on 10 August 2026 whether anyone had checked who AI tools actually cite, and said the vendors selling GEO were "almost never" among them (the r/SEO thread on who AI tools cite).
So we checked Jakarta ourselves. Across the 13 provider pages we found, technical badges were common. 5 pages never said how results would be measured. The 5 questions further down expose that gap in a single call.
Key takeaways
- On 13 September 2026, 10 of 13 Jakarta provider pages in our metasearch sample used the GEO label, and 8 served an llms.txt file.
- Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode carry no extra technical requirements, and Google Search doesn't use llms.txt files.
- 5 of the 13 pages named no way to measure AI visibility. 0 mentioned crawler logs.
- In Indonesian-locale results, 11 of 18 results for "aeo agency jakarta" were about the customs Authorized Economic Operator status.
- Hire on the measurement plan: prompt tests in 2 languages, Search Console figures, AI referrals and crawler logs.
What does a GEO agency in Jakarta actually change?
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is the work of helping AI tools understand your business and point to your pages when they answer. Answer engine optimisation (AEO) is the close cousin: shaping a page so a system can lift a clean, direct answer from it. A GEO agency in Jakarta changes much of what a good SEO team changes. Then it adds a way to measure what AI tools do with your pages.
The paper that introduced the term GEO was accepted at KDD 2024. Its 6 authors found GEO methods raised a source's visibility in generative engine responses by up to 40%, and the effect shifted from one subject area to another (Aggarwal et al., GEO paper, 2024).
Read that second finding twice. A tactic that lifts one subject can do little for another. Some firms now call themselves a GEO marketing agency and sell 1 fixed package to every Jakarta sector. That's guessing, and you're the one paying for the guess.
How GEO works when an AI tool answers
An AI answer starts with retrieval. Google says both AI Overviews and AI Mode may use a "query fan-out" technique, running several related searches across subtopics and data sources before they write a response. The 2 features can also use different models, so the links they show vary (Google Search Central).
| Where the answer appears | What fetches your page | What the platform documents |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews and AI Mode | Googlebot | Indexed and eligible for a snippet, with no extra technical requirements |
| ChatGPT search | OAI-SearchBot | Sites opted out of OAI-SearchBot aren't shown in ChatGPT search answers |
| Perplexity | PerplexityBot | Surfaces and links websites in Perplexity search results |
So GEO work has 2 jobs. First, make sure each of those 3 systems can fetch and index your page. Second, make the page easy to quote: a direct answer near the top, a clear heading for each buyer question, and facts with a named source.
Neither job is magic, and neither is new to good SEO. What's new is checking the result in the answers themselves, in more than 1 language.
Why do Jakarta buyers meet AI answers in two languages?
Google brought AI Overviews to Indonesia on 5 September 2024, with local-language support (Google Indonesia, September 2024). In October 2024 it said people in any country with AI Overviews could get them in supported languages, English and Indonesian included (Google, October 2024). AI Mode followed on 9 September 2025, in Bahasa Indonesia (Google Indonesia, September 2025).
| Date | What Google launched | Language note |
|---|---|---|
| 5 September 2024 | AI Overviews in Indonesia | Local-language support |
| October 2024 | AI Overviews language expansion | English and Indonesian among supported languages |
| 9 September 2025 | AI Mode in Indonesia | Bahasa Indonesia |
So your buyer in Jakarta can meet an AI answer in either language. If you sell to regional offices, exporters or foreign managers, you can't assume they all type in 1 language. An agency that tests 1 language checks 1 of the 2 doors your buyers walk through. One caveat keeps this honest: Google shows AI Overviews only when its systems judge them additive, so they often don't trigger (Google Search Central).
What we found on 13 Jakarta provider pages
We ran 8 searches a Jakarta buyer could type, including "geo agency jakarta", "aeo agency jakarta", "ai seo agency jakarta" and "ai search optimization agency jakarta". The results come from a metasearch sample taken with SingRank's self-hosted SearXNG on 13 September 2026 (blended Bing/Yandex results, not Google's exact ranking); a few rows came from Mwmbl.
We kept a result only if it was a provider's own service page or homepage, said Jakarta or Indonesia, and mentioned SEO, GEO, AEO or AI search. One page per company, none of our own. That left 13. We read each page's raw HTML, the way a crawler that skips JavaScript sees it, and fetched each site's llms.txt and robots.txt.
| What we checked (13 pages) | Pages |
|---|---|
| Mentions GEO on the page | 10 of 13 |
| Mentions AEO on the page | 6 of 13 |
| Written mainly in English | 8 of 13 |
| Site serves a readable llms.txt file | 8 of 13 |
| Page carries FAQPage schema | 7 of 13 |
| Page carries an Organization-type schema | 12 of 13 |
| robots.txt shuts out OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot | 0 of 13 |
| Names no way to measure AI visibility | 5 of 13 |
| Mentions crawler or server logs | 0 of 13 |
| Shows a service price on the page itself | 0 of 13 |
| Promises a ranking or citation outcome | 0 of 13 |
Most pages already wear the badges an AI-search specialist is meant to wear. Far fewer tell you how they'll prove the work did anything. No page promised a ranking or a citation, and 3 said outright that they don't guarantee one. Treat the table as a snapshot, not a census: a metasearch sample misses agencies that show on Google but not on Bing or Yandex.
Does AEO mean answer engines or customs in Jakarta?
In our Indonesian-locale sample, 11 of the 18 results for "aeo agency jakarta" were about customs, not answer engines. Only 4 were about answer or agentic engine optimisation. The same query with an English locale returned 0 customs results in the 20 rows shown.
Bea Cukai runs AEO as the Authorized Economic Operator programme, now governed by Minister of Finance Regulation No. 137 of 2023 (Bea Cukai: Fasilitas AEO).
For an importer or exporter, that clash shows up on day 1. Brief your team to "hire an AEO agency" and your customs lead may think of a certificate. Never leave the acronym on its own in a brief or a contract. Write "answer engine optimisation" in full, and ask the agency to do the same.
Which technical badges no longer separate agencies?
Google's documentation is blunt. A page needs to be indexed and eligible to show in Search with a snippet. On top of that, for AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google writes:
There are no additional technical requirements. (Google Search Central)
Its optimisation guide goes further. You don't need new machine-readable files, AI text files or special markup to appear in Google Search, because Google Search itself doesn't use them. Nor does its generative AI search require schema markup (Google's guide to generative AI features).
None of that makes llms.txt or schema pointless. Schema still earns rich results, and other assistants read the web in their own ways.
It does mean a proposal built around installing an llms.txt file sells you something 8 of our 13 sampled sites already had. We'd skip any quote that bills it as the main deliverable. Our longer view sits in whether llms.txt helps AI search").
Can AI crawlers read your site without JavaScript?
OpenAI's crawler page is clear: block OAI-SearchBot and your site won't appear in ChatGPT's search answers, apart from navigational links (OpenAI crawler documentation). Perplexity describes PerplexityBot as the crawler that surfaces and links websites in its search results (Perplexity crawler documentation). 0 of the 13 sites we checked shut either bot out in robots.txt.
Access is only half the job. Vercel's analysis of crawler traffic, published in December 2024, found that none of the major AI crawlers it tracked rendered JavaScript, naming OpenAI's and Anthropic's bots, while Google's Gemini uses Googlebot's infrastructure and renders pages fully (Vercel, December 2024).
The test costs you 5 minutes. Open your main service page with JavaScript switched off. If the prices, service areas or contact route vanish, a ChatGPT or Claude crawler can't read them either. We built the same limit into SingRank Pixel, which carries an image request that can log a visit even when no JavaScript runs.
GEO agency Jakarta checklist: 5 things to ask before you sign
Ask these 5 questions on the first call. A good agency answers each in plain words and then writes the answer into its proposal. A weak one changes the subject.
1. How will you measure our AI visibility each month?
Expect named instruments, not adjectives. For its own AI features, Google sends site owners to a Search Console report built for generative AI performance (Google's guide to generative AI features).
Beyond Google, ask for 3 more records: a fixed set of test questions run on a schedule, AI referral visits in your analytics, and crawler requests pulled from server logs. 5 of the 13 pages we checked named none of these, not even Search Console.
If a proposal says "we monitor AI visibility" and stops there, ask which file or screen you'll open at the first monthly review. An agency that can't show you one before you sign won't show you one afterwards. Our guide on how to see the AI traffic your reports miss covers where those visits show up in analytics.
2. Which prompts will you test, and in which languages?
A prompt test is a fixed question typed into ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google's AI Mode, with the answer saved. On our own GEO page we describe the check as recording the wording, the platform and the observed answer, and we warn that results are snapshots that can change across sessions (how our GEO work is scoped and checked).
So ask how many questions they'll run, how often, and whether each one goes in once in English and once in Bahasa Indonesia. Get the exact wording before work starts. Don't accept a test list the agency writes after the answers come back. A list agreed in week 1 is the only fair baseline in month 3, and without it you can waste 3 months arguing about what "better" means.
3. Can you read our crawler logs and AI referrals?
Not one of the 13 pages in our sample mentioned crawler or server logs. That gap matters, because a server log is where you see whether OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot reached your pages at all. On our own site, a review on 12 August 2026 turned up AI crawler requests that never got through (how we judge evidence before reporting a result).
Referrals cover the other end of the journey. SingRank Pixel can spot a visit that arrives with a recognised AI referrer, but it can't tell you every query typed or the exact AI answer someone read (what SingRank Pixel records and cannot see). Choose an agency that explains both records and admits the limits of each. A crawler request is not a recommendation.
4. What will the AEO agency change on our own pages?
Ask for a page-by-page list before you pay. It should name the service pages that will get a direct answer in the first paragraph, the buyer questions that will get their own heading, and the business details that must match across your site and profiles.
Google's own list of SEO basics for AI features includes keeping structured data matched to the visible text, and keeping your Business Profile up to date (Google Search Central).
If you sell along a trade corridor, such as Singapore to Jakarta, we'd rather see 1 page per corridor you genuinely serve than 1 vague regional page. Our guide to corridor pages for logistics companies shows the shape. An agency that proposes new blog posts before fixing the service pages your buyers land on has the order backwards.
5. What will you refuse to promise us?
The right answer names rankings, AI mentions and sales. Our pricing page puts it plainly: "Search rankings, AI recommendations and sales cannot be guaranteed" (SingRank pricing). Our GEO page answers the guarantee question with a plain no.
Avoid any Jakarta provider that offers a set position, a set citation or a date by which either arrives. AI platforms choose their own answers, and those answers move between sessions. What an agency can commit to is the agreed work, a fixed test list and honest reporting of what the records show, including the months when nothing moved. If a sales deck skips that last part, ask to see a real monthly review with a flat month in it.
Does GEO cost more than SEO?
At SingRank it doesn't cost extra, because we don't sell it separately. Our GEO page states that GEO is included in the SEO and GEO programme from S$500/month (how our GEO work is scoped and checked), and our programme page says there are no separate SEO, AEO and GEO packages (SEO, AEO and GEO programme).
We think that's the fair structure for most Jakarta firms, and it's our judgement, not an industry rule. Google's own advice is to apply the same foundational SEO best practices to AI features, so the page fixes that help Google read you overlap heavily with the fixes that help an AI tool quote you (Google Search Central).
If a quote splits GEO into its own line, ask what that line does that the SEO line doesn't. You should hear a named task, such as prompt tests in 2 languages or a monthly crawler-log review, not a new word for the same work.
What should the monthly fee buy?
0 of the 13 pages we sampled put a service price on the page itself, so you'll mostly compare quotes blind. Ours is public: the Indonesia programme starts from Rp 5,000,000/month (Indonesia SEO and GEO programme), and SEO and GEO priced in Singapore dollars start from S$500/month (SingRank pricing).
| A fair fee buys | No fee can buy |
|---|---|
| An agreed list of test questions in English and Bahasa Indonesia | A recommendation from ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity |
| The page changes made that month | A set position in Google Search or AI Mode |
| Search Console and AI referral figures | A date by which a citation will appear |
| A plain note on what didn't move | A promise that the answers stay the same next month |
Read the right-hand column as a filter. Strike out any line item that claims to deliver one of those, or you'll pay for it 12 times a year and receive it 0 times. The left-hand column is what you check at every monthly review. For the money side of the decision, see our piece on proving that search work pays.
A 30-day trial plan for any agency
You don't need a 6-month pilot to see whether an agency measures properly. 4 weeks shows you its habits, and a month of checking costs far less than a 12-month contract signed blind.
- Days 1 to 7: write 10 questions your buyers really ask, 5 in English and 5 in Bahasa Indonesia, and agree the wording with the agency.
- Days 8 to 14: run all 10 in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Mode, 40 checks in total, and save each answer with its date.
- Days 8 to 14: open robots.txt and check the rules for OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot, then view your top service page with JavaScript off.
- Days 15 to 21: open Search Console's report on generative AI performance, and add an AI-referral view to your analytics (Google's guide).
- Days 22 to 30: ask for 1 page of changes made, 1 page of results, and 1 sentence on what the agency couldn't measure.
How SingRank measures AI visibility for Jakarta companies
We're a Singapore-registered company (UEN 53511142L) and a fully remote team. There's no walk-in office in Jakarta or anywhere else, and meetings run by video call or WhatsApp (about SingRank).
Our in-house measurement backend runs 74 tools across 10 nodes. Since 29 July 2026, Google Search Console has been its only keyword and demand source, with no Ahrefs or Semrush in the stack (the measurement backend we built). Beside it sits SingRank Pixel, which records WhatsApp clicks and contact-form submissions and flags recognised AI referrers. Where your platform provides server logs, we read those too.
We also publish our own mistakes. One internal figure once showed conversion rates above 100%, which can't exist, and the cause turned out to be a divisor fault; the fix is written up on our technology page (the measurement backend we built). Our dated client results with declines included page lists the 2 clients whose clicks fell, why they fell and when we'll measure again.
When is SingRank the wrong pick?
Skip us if you want an agency that visits your office every week. Skip us too if your buyers only search in Bahasa Indonesia for a local service nearby; our Bahasa Indonesia guide to choosing an SEO partner in Jakarta is the better place to start.
We fit best when 3 things are true:
- your buyers ask in English as well as Bahasa Indonesia
- you want every number traced back to where it came from
- you'd rather hear about a slow month from us than find it in a dashboard yourself
If you're comparing a GEO agency Indonesia-wide rather than in Jakarta alone, the same 5 questions still apply.
Send us the 10 things your buyers ask most
Pick 10 questions a real buyer would type into ChatGPT or Google, 5 in English and 5 in Bahasa Indonesia. Write them the way your customers talk, not the way your brochure does. Send them with your website and ask for the free AI visibility check described on our GEO page.
We'll look at your questions and tell you which improvements we'd make first, before you decide whether a monthly programme makes sense. If you then want the Indonesia programme, we agree the scope and any separate costs before you commit. Keep the list either way. It's the baseline you'll want in hand whichever GEO agency you hire, and it's the fastest way to test the answers you get from anyone else.
FAQ
What is a GEO agency in Jakarta?
A GEO agency in Jakarta improves how AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Mode understand and point to a business. The work covers clear answers on your pages, consistent business details, crawler access and regular prompt tests in English and Bahasa Indonesia, reported with the records used to measure them.
Is AEO different from GEO?
AEO shapes pages so a search or AI system can lift a direct answer. GEO covers how generative engines understand and cite a business overall. All 6 Jakarta pages in our sample that mentioned AEO also mentioned GEO. In Indonesia, write "answer engine optimisation" in full, because AEO also names the customs Authorized Economic Operator programme run by Bea Cukai.
Do I need an llms.txt file to appear in Google's AI Overviews?
No. Google says you don't need new machine-readable or AI text files to appear in Google Search, including AI Overviews and AI Mode, because Google Search doesn't use them. Keep an llms.txt file if it costs you little, but don't let it become the main thing an agency bills you for each month.
How much does a GEO agency cost in Jakarta?
0 of the 13 Jakarta provider pages in our September 2026 sample showed a price on the page. SingRank's Indonesia programme starts from Rp 5,000,000/month (Indonesia SEO and GEO programme). Whoever you ask, get the fee split into 3 parts: question list, page changes and measurement.
Can an agency guarantee that ChatGPT recommends my business?
No. AI platforms choose their own answers, and those answers change between sessions. An honest agency commits to the agreed work and to reporting what the tests, referrals and logs actually show. Treat any promised citation, ranking or mention as a reason to keep looking before you sign.
Which agency helps SMEs rank in AI search?
No list can settle that for your business, and no agency controls the answers. Pick the one that passes the 5 checklist questions above: named measurement, prompt tests in 2 languages, crawler logs, page-level changes and no promised outcome. Ask for a sample monthly review before you pay anything.
Should a Jakarta company test English or Bahasa Indonesia prompts?
Test both if your buyers use both. Google offers AI Overviews in English and Indonesian to people in Indonesia, and AI Mode runs in Bahasa Indonesia. Agree the split with your GEO agency Jakarta team before work starts, then compare the answers in each language every month.
