Searching business not showing on Google Maps Singapore usually means 1 of 2 things: Google is withholding your profile, or it's live and ranking low. Before you change anything, search your exact business name from a signed-out phone. No result points to causes 1 to 5; a result for your name only points to cause 7.
Then work out which of Google's own waits you're inside. Google gives itself up to 5 business days to review a verification, up to 30 days to review an edit, up to a month to rank a new business and up to 5 business days to decide an appeal. The moves owners reach for first, such as a new code, another edit, a second profile or a repeat appeal, can void a code or send you back through review.

You set up the profile, you got the verification code, maybe you even collected a few reviews. Then a customer tells you they searched for your service 2 streets away and saw 3 other shops, not you.
You're not alone. Owners type my business not showing on Google Maps into Google. They post the same complaint on Google's own help forum in almost the same words: "My business is verified but its not showing up on Google or Google Maps!" (Google Business Profile Community).
Here's the trap. "Not showing" sounds like one fault, but Google's help pages describe 2 different states: a profile Google is withholding, and a live profile that ranks low. Each has its own wait and its own fix. Mix them up and you can lose a month re-verifying a profile that was never broken, or wait for a ranking to improve on a listing Google has quietly suspended.
Below are the 7 causes we check, in order. For each one we give the symptom, the check, the fix, Google's stated maximum wait and the move that resets it.
Key takeaways
- Only verified profiles can show business info on Maps and Search, and Google allows itself up to 5 business days to review a verification.
- Edits to a verified profile usually clear in 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days, and a new business can take up to a month to show in rankings.
- A duplicate profile won't show on Search or Maps at all, and Google says not to create a new profile while an appeal is under review.
- Google wants permanent signage at any address it shows, while Singapore's Home-Based Business Scheme bans signage at home, so an HDB home business should be a service-area profile.
- If you appear only when people type your name, it's a ranking problem: relevance, distance and prominence. Nobody can pay Google to fix that.
What "business not showing on Google Maps Singapore" usually means
Run this 60-second test before you change anything. Sign out of the Google Account that manages your profile, or use a private browser window, then search Google Maps for your exact business name, spelled the way it appears on your profile. Then search what you sell plus your area, the way a customer would, such as aircon servicing Tampines.
There are 3 possible outcomes:
- Your name finds nothing. Google isn't showing the profile publicly. Go to causes 1 to 5.
- Your name finds you, but the service search doesn't. The profile is live and Google is ranking it below others. Go to cause 7, then check cause 6.
- Your name finds the wrong listing, or 2 of you. You likely have a duplicate. Go to cause 4.
What does your Business Profile dashboard say?
Next, sign in to the Google Account that manages the profile and open it. Google says that to find your profile you must be signed in to the account associated with it (Google Business Profile Help). The status you see there, such as a verification prompt, a pending edit or a suspension notice, tells you more than any outside tool.
One search from one spot is a snapshot, not a map: your ranking changes with where the searcher stands. Our guide to rank tracking in Singapore explains how to track where you appear across Singapore over time.
The 7 causes at a glance
Match your symptom to a cause. The time column shows Google's stated maximums, not a promise.
| # | Cause | Typical symptom | Google's stated maximum wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Not verified, or verification pending | Name search finds nothing; dashboard asks you to verify | Review up to 5 business days; postcard codes mostly within 14 days |
| 2 | Edit under review, or new profile settling | Profile disappears or looks stale after a change | Edits up to 30 days; new rankings up to a month |
| 3 | Suspended or disabled | Profile vanished; notice in your account | Appeal decisions up to 5 business days |
| 4 | Duplicate profile | Two listings, or neither shows | Owner has 3 days to answer an access request |
| 5 | Ineligible address setup (HDB, virtual office, co-working) | Failed verification, suspension, or a misplaced pin | Up to 48 hours for new service areas to show |
| 6 | A name stuffed with keywords, or the wrong category | Suspension risk; weak match for your service | Category edits may trigger re-verification |
| 7 | Live but ranking low | Found by name only | No fixed time; ranking work is ongoing |
What will not fix it
The waits in that table are also traps. Four moves feel productive, but they void a code, reset a review or simply waste the wait:
- Creating a new profile. It becomes a duplicate. During a suspension, Google tells you to hold off on any new profile for that business until the appeal is decided (Google, Fix suspended profiles).
- Paying someone who promises a Maps ranking. Google says there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. A provider can improve the inputs; nobody can sell the output.
- Stuffing the name or categories. See cause 6. The upside is small and the downside is a suspension.
- Appealing again and again. Google asks for one appeal per issue, and it gives itself up to 5 business days to rule on each (Google, Appeal a suspension). Fix the cause, appeal once, with evidence.
1. Is your profile still unverified or pending?
If Google hasn't verified the profile, it won't show. Google's help page says it plainly: "Only verified businesses can show their business info on Maps and Search" (Google Business Profile Help).
Symptom: your name search finds nothing, and the dashboard shows a Get verified button or a pending status.
How to confirm: sign in and open the profile. If it asks you to verify, this is your cause.
The fix, step by step:
- Select Get verified and use the method Google offers. Google picks the verification method for you, and you can’t change it (Google, Verify your business), so don't hunt for a different one.
- If you're offered a video, take it. Google's own tip is that eligible businesses should use video verification.
- If you're sent a postcard, stop editing. Google warns that editing your name, address or category while you wait makes the posted code stop working.
- Don't request a second code while the first is in the post, because a new request cancels the one in transit.
- Once you've submitted, wait. Google says its verification review takes up to 5 business days, occasionally longer.
How long: Google says most codes arrive within 14 days and every code expires after 30 days (Google, 2026). If your code sits uncollected at a condo guardhouse or an office reception desk past day 30, you lose it and wait for a new postcard, which Google says usually arrives within 14 days.
One shortcut many owners miss: Google says a profile can be verified instantly if you’ve already verified your website in Google Search Console. Already in Search Console? Check that first. Along with video verification, it's one of the few ways to avoid the postcard wait.
2. Verified, but still under review or too new
This case sits behind many verified business not showing on Google Maps complaints. The profile is verified, but an edit is still under review, or the profile is too new to rank.
Google reviews every edit to a verified profile. Its help page says edits usually clear review within 10 minutes, but some take up to 30 days (Google, Business Profile edits). An edit can come back as accepted, not approved or pending. Google may also update your details itself if it gets reports that your information isn't accurate.
For a new business, the wait is longer than owners expect. Google says a new business can wait up to a month to appear in rankings, and an accepted edit can take up to 3 days to show (Google Business Profile Help).
How to confirm: open Edit profile and look for pending edits or a Google update notice. Check the date you verified.
The fix: make one change, then wait for it to clear before the next. Our view: don't stack 5 edits in a week (new name, new category, new hours, new address, new phone). That can turn a 10-minute review into 30 days. It also invites a closer look.
If a month has passed since verification and nothing shows, move on to causes 3 to 6.
3. Has your profile been suspended?
A suspended or disabled profile "won’t show to other users on Google until you resolve the issue", and Google notifies the managing account (Google Business Profile Help). Fix the cause first, then appeal once, with evidence. Our full walk-through: why Google suspends HDB home businesses.
4. Is a duplicate profile splitting your listing?
A duplicate can keep your business off Maps even when your own profile looks complete. Google allows one Business Profile per business, and its help page is blunt: "If a profile is considered a duplicate, it won’t show on Google Search or Maps" (Google, Duplicate profiles).
Google lists 3 triggers: a verified profile already exists for the same business, several profiles share one address, or one business has separate profiles for different services.
Symptom: you see 2 versions of your business, or neither shows, for example after a move, a rebrand or a former staff member creating a profile to help.
How to confirm: search your name, your phone number and your address on Maps. Note every listing that comes up.
The fix:
- If you created the extra profile yourself, remove it from your Google Account. Pick carefully: Google says removing a duplicate removes all its content and linked managers.
- If 2 public listings exist for one business, suggest a merge on Google Maps, as the duplicates help page explains. When profiles merge, Google says the reviews combine but your replies to them may be lost.
- If you moved, don't open a new profile. Google tells you to keep the profile you have and update its address instead.
- If you offer several services, list them as services on one profile, not as separate profiles.
If someone else owns the profile, such as an ex-agency or ex-staff member, request ownership. Google says the current owner "has 3 days to respond" (Google, Request ownership). We cover that dispute in our guide to recovering Google Business Profile ownership in Singapore.
5. HDB, virtual office and co-working address rules
This is the most Singapore-specific cause, and it catches genuine businesses. Two rulebooks pull in opposite directions.
Google's guidelines say: "Businesses showing their address on Google should maintain permanent fixed signage of their business name at the address" (Google, Guidelines). Singapore's rules for home businesses say the opposite. Under the Home-Based Business Scheme, "Advertisements, signages, or posters are not allowed to be displayed at the residential premises" (GoBusiness Licensing).
So an HDB home business can't meet Google's signage test for a public address. It isn't a loophole problem; it's a setup problem. Google's own answer fits Singapore neatly: "If your business doesn’t have permanent on-site signage, it's not eligible as a storefront and should be listed as a service-area business" (Google, Service areas).
Symptom: verification keeps failing, the profile gets suspended, or the pin sits on your block with no customers able to visit.
How to set up an HDB home business the right way
The fix for a home business takes 4 steps:
- Switch the profile to a service-area business and clear the address. Google tells service-area businesses to hide their address from customers.
- Add the areas you really serve. Google allows up to 20 service areas, set by city, postal code or similar area. List the towns or postal districts you cover, not the whole island by default.
- If you have to verify by video, film your neighbourhood rather than your front door. Google says: "If you run a service-area business from your home, you can record landmarks and signs in your immediate neighborhood to verify the address." The video must be at least 30 seconds long.
- Allow up to 48 hours for service-area edits to show.
The same logic covers offices. Google rules a virtual office ineligible for a Business Profile, and a co-working desk only qualifies if it keeps clear signage, receives customers and is staffed during business hours. If your registered address is a corporate secretary's office you never work from, don't show it on Maps.
Home bakers, caterers and other home food businesses face the same address rule, plus food-specific search habits; our guide to restaurant and F&B SEO in Singapore covers that side.
6. A keyword-stuffed name or the wrong category
Two settings decide whether Google trusts your profile and matches it to the right searches: the name and the primary category. The name comes first.
Adding services or locations to it looks like an easy ranking boost, and some local-SEO advice still lists keywords in the business name among the strongest local ranking factors. Google's rulebook points the other way: "Including unnecessary information in your business name isn't permitted, and could result in the suspension of your Business Profile" (Google, Guidelines). Service or product information and location information are both on Google's not-permitted list.
Our call: skip it. A name like [Your Name] Aircon Servicing Best Tampines Jurong 24 Hours can turn a ranking problem into a missing-listing problem overnight. Use your real name, the one on your invoices, website and business registration.
How to choose the right primary category
Google says: "The categories you select affect your local ranking on Google" (Google, Business category). Choose the most specific primary category that describes what the business is. Google also bars using categories just as keywords or to describe features.
Timing matters here too. Google says adding or editing a category may send you back through verification. Change the category once, deliberately, and not in the same week as a name or address change.
7. Why does Google show you only for your name?
If your name finds you but plumber Bedok doesn't, your profile works. Google is ranking other businesses higher for that search. Re-verifying won't change that, and neither will an appeal.
Google explains how it ranks local results: they're "mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity" (Google, Local ranking). The same page then explains the third factor under the heading Prominence, which it says is "based on info like how many websites link to your business and how many reviews you have." Google adds: "There's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google."
For a Singapore SME, that means 3 levers:
| Factor | What Google looks at | What you can change this month |
|---|---|---|
| Relevance | How well the profile matches the search | Primary category, services list, complete description and hours |
| Distance | How far you are from the searcher | Honest service areas; you can't move closer to every customer |
| Prominence | Links to your business, reviews, ratings | Ask real customers for reviews; earn mentions on relevant local sites |
In our view, distance is the factor owners fight hardest and win least, because you can't be close to every searcher at once. Our advice: stop trying to rank everywhere. Aim to be the obvious choice in the areas you really serve, which is also where your reviews carry the most weight.
If you run a trade that travels to customers, our industry guides show how this plays out for plumbers, aircon servicing companies, cleaning companies, pest control companies and renovation companies.

Your 14-day fix plan
Here's the order we'd follow:
- Day 1: run the name test and the service test from a signed-out phone. Write down which outcome you got.
- Day 1: sign in and read the profile status. Screenshot any verification prompt, pending edit or suspension notice.
- Day 2: search your name, phone and address on Maps to find duplicates.
- Day 2: decide storefront or service area. No permanent signage at the address means service area.
- Day 3: clean the name to your real-world name, and set one specific primary category.
- Day 3 to 7: complete verification or submit one appeal with evidence. Stop editing while Google reviews.
- Day 8 to 14: fill in services, hours and description, and ask 5 recent customers for an honest review.
- Day 14: repeat the Day 1 tests and compare.
Google's timings still apply: a pending edit can take up to 30 days, and a new business up to a month to show in rankings.

Frequently asked questions
Why isn't my business showing on Google Maps if it's verified?
A verified profile can still be hidden. The usual reasons are a duplicate profile, a suspension, an address setup Google doesn't allow, or an edit still under review, which Google says can take up to 30 days. If your name search finds you, the profile is live and ranking low instead.
How long does it take for a new business to show on Google Maps?
Google allows up to 5 business days to review a verification, and most postcard codes land within 14 days. Ranking can take up to a month more. Avoid editing your name, address or category while a postcard code is in the post, or the code won't work.
Can I show my HDB flat address on Google Maps?
Usually not. Google expects permanent signage at any address it shows, and Singapore's Home-Based Business Scheme doesn't allow signage, posters or advertisements at the flat. Set the profile up as a service-area business, hide the address and list the areas you serve.
Why is my business not publicly visible on Google Maps even though I can see it?
Your own view as the owner isn't proof of what customers see. Check the dashboard for a pending edit, a verification step or a suspension notice. Then search your name from a signed-out phone, the way a customer would. If the public still can't find you, work through causes 1 to 5 in this guide.
Can I pay Google to show my business higher on Maps?
No. Google says there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, so the work goes into your category, details, reviews and links. Treat anyone selling a guaranteed Maps position with suspicion.
How much does help with a Google Maps listing cost in Singapore?
At SingRank, Google Business Profile optimisation and local SEO sit inside the Premium Starter plan at S$500 a month, with a 3-month minimum. Rankings can't be guaranteed. If you only need the diagnosis, the 14-day plan above costs nothing but your time.
How to get your business to show up on Google Maps
Create or claim a Business Profile, verify it, and choose the right setup: storefront if customers visit a signed location, service area if you travel to them. Use your real business name, one specific primary category and complete details. Then earn genuine reviews over time.
